End-of-School-Year Survival Guide for Parents

If your calendar is filling up fast here in Upland, Claremont, and La Verne, youโ€™re not alone

Is it just me, or does the end of the school year feel busier than the holidays?
One minute, everything is normal, and you're enjoying the kids' spring break, and the next, you’re juggling spirit days, field trips, random dress-up requests, and a calendar full of events you forgot you signed up for.

If you’re feeling a little overwhelmed, you’re definitely not alone. Here are a few things that helped us get through those last weeks without completely losing it.

๐ŸŽ‰ Spirit Weeks (aka… wait, what day is it?)

Spirit week sounds fun, until it’s 9 pm and your child tells you tomorrow is “dress like your favorite book character day.”

A couple things that help:

  • As soon as that flyer comes home, take a picture of it
  • Pick the days you actually want to go all in, and keep the rest simple
  • Let your kids get creative with what you already have

Crazy socks and a backwards hat saved us more than once.

๐ŸŽ Teacher Gifts Without the Stress

Teacher Appreciation and end-of-year gifts always snuck up on me.

Over time I learned it really doesn’t have to be complicated:

  • A small gift card
  • A simple thank-you note
  • Even just a heartfelt message from your child

Honestly, teachers appreciate the thought more than anything else. It doesn’t need to be Pinterest-worthy.

๐ŸšŒ Field Trips = Organized Chaos

Permission slips, lunches, water bottles… it’s a lot.

What worked for us:

  • Keep all school papers in one spot so nothing gets lost
  • Fill out forms the same day they come home - don't wait!
  • Snap a picture of the forms/permission slips so you have a record of the details
  • Pack everything the night before (the morning you will thank you)

I also tried to keep sunscreen and a hat ready to go, so I wasn't searching for them last minute.

๐Ÿ“… Everything Happens at Once

Open house, performances, awards, random “just one more thing” events… it all piles up fast.

One thing that helped me was putting everything into my phone calendar right away. If it’s not in there, it’s probably not happening, or at least it won't happen well.

Honestly, it’s okay to skip something. You don’t have to be at everything to still be a great parent.

๐Ÿ˜… Give Yourself a Little Grace

Kids are tired, routines are off, and everyone is counting down to summer.

Some nights dinner is simple. Bedtime might be a little later. Things might not feel perfectly put together, and that’s okay.

This season is busy, but it’s also kind of special in its own way.

๐Ÿ’› Almost There

As hectic as it feels, the last weeks are full of little moments you’ll want to remember.

The excitement, the growth, the countdown to summer.

We’re almost there!
